Details:
On December 13 1982 the city of Ancona was affected by a large landslide, whose volume was estimated at 180 million m3. Structures, infrastructures and some important public and strategic buildings, including the building of the Faculty of Medicine and the Oncology and Geriatric hospitals, were severely damaged. The Milan-Lecce railway line (known as Adriatica line) and the SS Flaminia road move over 10 meters towards the sea. Over 3000 people were evacuated, 1582 people were transferred to hotels or other residences.
Following the issuing of the L.R. n. 5/2002, the Municipality of Ancona has activated a continuous monitoring of the landslide and drawn up an emergency plan according to art. 1, paragraph 4, of the D.L. n. 180 of 11/06/98 for the reduction of the risk of people still residing in the area of failure.
The Early Warning system implemented by the Municipality of Ancona since November 2008, which controls the stability of the area 24 hours with a surface topographic monitoring network integrated by a deep geotechnical monitoring, is known throughout the world and is an example of risk management and active cohabitation with the landslide, visited by Italian and international technicians.
C.S.G. in February 2009 installed the geotechnical monitoring system consisting of 3 DMS Slope columns with a variable length from 86 to 95 m for a total of 525 sensors that continuously monitor the great landslide in real time.
At the Monitoring Center of the Municipality a staff of technicians checks every day the monitoring data in coordination with the Civil Protection group in case of exceeding the alarm thresholds.
